An analysis of children’s books that address the immigrant experience and are available in the Larissa Gerstel Critical Literacy Collection at American University Library's Curriculum Materials Center. The list is to benefit immigrant and/or refugee children and those teaching them to aid with the experience of moving to a new country. This literature is also useful for all students to reflect on how they deal with major transitional issues like changing schools and making new friends. Additionally, these books give immigrant and refugee children a voice in a society that often undermines newcomers and individuals who come from a different culture.
