dc.description A bald eagle carrying a Union flag attacks Jefferson Davis as he escapes from robbing the eagle's nest. Two men hoist Davis away from the nest to assist his escape. Jefferson Davis has an eaglet tucked in the crook of this left arm. The stolen eaglet might be a reference to the Confederacy's attempts to control Kentucky or Missouri during the first year of the Civil War. On the left of the illustration appears "D. Murphy's Son, Print. 65 Fulton & 372 Pearl Street, N.Y."
